Meet NYO 2018

'I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of NYO 2018 and cannot wait to be making music with other amazing young musicians at such a high standard.' - Theo, cello

Meet the 164 talented teenage musicians, hailing from all corners of the UK, who will join together to produce NYO's spectacular sound in 2018. You can discover their unique stories on our webpage - find out their favouirte orchestral pieces, the musical figures they'd love to collaborate with and why they think all teenagers should listen to classical music.

These totally brilliant and committed musicians are ready for a year of making music at the highest level. Celebrating NYO's 70th birthday in 2018, the orchestra's nationwide projects include the performance of its first ever complete opera, Bartók's Duke Bluebeard's Castle, in January, working with renowned opera director Daisy Evans. In another first, NYO divides in two in April, with one orchestra performing Bernstein's epic theatrical MASS, and the other giving a concert for young people called NYO Unleashed which will feature Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and music from Star Wars and The Hunger Games.

This year NYO held auditions for over 700 candidates in 11 UK cities. We're proud that 26% of musicians in NYO 2018 have come through NYO Inspire, our game-changing inclusion and access programme aimed to increase diversity in classical music and provides breakthrough musical experiences for committed musicians from state schools. We're excited that NYO Inspire will expand in 2018 to give breakthrough orchestral experiences to over 1,000 teenagers. If you're a teenage musician playing at Grade 6 or above, find out how you could take part in NYO Inspire projects in 2018.
