Introducing the Orchestra of 2027

We’re delighted to announce the arrival of the next generation of changemakers in orchestral music.

160 teenage musicians from every corner of the UK, from Banchory to Bicester and Sleaford to Sevenoaks, are ready to play their part in the Orchestra of 2027.

Throughout the year, they’ll take the power of orchestral music from world-class concert halls to schools, youth centres and communities across the UK, connecting with thousands of teenagers and inspiring them to discover what an orchestra can be. Along the way, they’ll grow in confidence and step up as role models for other young people.

NYO has given me a real sense of belonging, bringing me together with young musicians from across the country who share my passion for orchestral music. As this year’s Leader, I want to build a community where we challenge, encourage and bring out the best in one another, and show more teenagers how powerful orchestral music can be.

I love the excitement of playing in a huge orchestra of young people my age and as passionate about music as me. The feeling when we all sit down and play our first chord together always gives me shivers down my spine, it's so magical! I'm so excited to spend a whole year with NYO!

More teenagers than ever before are becoming part of the NYO community and finding opportunities to take their music further. Half of the Orchestra of 2027 are joining for the first time, while 43% have progressed through NYO Inspire. And with a record 1,000 teenagers taking part in NYO Inspire this year, even more young musicians are getting the chance to develop their passion and see where music can take them.

The first activity of 2027 will be NYO Unite, where the entire NYO community of teenage musicians come together for a series of music making activities across the UK, alongside young musicians in their local area.

In January, the Orchestra of 2027 will embark on the Voyage tour in Manchester, Coventry and London. Don’t miss out, tickets are now on sale and Free for Teens.
