NYO play the school
Filling the school corridors with orchestral music

Following our spring tour which took us to London, Liverpool and Birmingham, we took orchestral music beyond the concert hall and direct to our fellow teenagers in secondary schools. We believe music not only has the power to inspire, but to change the world. That is the reason it deserves a place in every school, and it’s why we work with ten secondary schools every year.

This spring, we shared our sound, energy and enthusiasm with more than 1,000 teenagers in London. We returned to Skinners Academy and Bow School with conductor Karin Hendrickson for two days filled with music-making, workshops, improvisation, performances and peer learning. We shared our skills and love for orchestral music with 400 young musicians in workshops, and gave a schoolwide musical sharing.

We couldn’t have made these events successful without the support from our NYO Young Promoters. Apart from being responsible for the pre-concert NYO Teen Hangout during our spring and winter tour this year, our brilliant community of NYO Young Promoters have planned, hosted, presented and spread the word about NYO’s Play the School events amazingly. We are thankful for their valuable help.
Here’s a taste of what we got up to at Play the School.
