400 teenage musicians, 6 ensembles, 32 tutors, 15 pieces of music from Gabrieli to Rodgers & Hammerstein, 117 music hubs, services and organisations, and 3 residencies. NYO Inspire Ensembles returned to The University of Liverpool for its fourth and biggest year to date!
From the 10 to 18 of February, young passionate musicians from every corner of the UK - as far as the Isle of Wight, Channel Islands and Inverness – came together for 9 days of musical discovery and dynamic team-building.
They took part in sectionals, mini-orchestras, chamber groups, technique and Creative Leadership sessions led by our fantastic tutors and NYO Musicians. Totally immersive musical experiences, these residencies gave teenage musicians the chance to exchange musical ideas, compose and improvise, develop their musicianship and push all aspects of their playing to the next level.
Each residency culminated in a spectacular Sharing for friends and family, showcasing the brilliant progress and team spirit achieved after just 3 days’ hard work.
These 9 energy-filled days of NYO Inspire Ensembles have shown us what our nation’s teenage musicians are truly capable of, and we look forward to seeing their musical journeys unfold.
A huge thanks to The University of Liverpool, the Liverpool Guild of Students and the Marriott Hotel for their enormous generosity in offering us their wonderful facilities for free.
We would like to particularly thank Helen Thomas, Elliott Wheeler, Professor Catherine Tackley, and James Hammond for their continuous support. A special thanks to all the parents, music hubs/organisations, and teachers that have supported these teenage musicians on their musical journeys.
