NYO ON TOUR: A SPRING AWAKENING
NYO TEAMS UP WITH SHEKU KANNEH-MASON  TO  PERFORM IN LEEDS AND LONDON

All aboard! All aboard! Spring's colours are bursting out so awaken your sense of adventure and come on the journey of a lifetime with the world's greatest orchestra of teenagers.  With unstoppable momentum, our intrepid musicians will whisk you from the heat and humidity of the Mexican jungle to the imperial grandeur of St Petersburg.

Revueltas              The Night of the Mayas
Shostakovich      Cello Concerto No.1
Shostakovich      Symphony No.5

Your expert guide for the journey is Mexican conductor Carlos Migeul Prieto. Using his insider knowledge he reveals a rare musical gem, Silvestre Revueltas' film score The Night of the Mayas. Fasten your seatbelts for an exhilarating rollercoater ride filled with ritualistic fanfares, hedonistic dances and exotic frenzied percussion.

Joining the next leg of the journey is a very special guest, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason. He will reprise his electrifying performance of Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No.1 that won him BBC Young Musicians of the Year 2016 in this collaboration of the best young British musical talent.

And then we reach our final stop: Shostakovich's Symphony No.5. One of the greatest symphonies of the 20th Century, its awesome intensity and acerbic pomp commands attention from its opening bars to its startling finale.

We can't wait to bring NYO's awesome sound and infectious energy to Leeds Town Hall (8 Apr) and Barbican (9 Apr). As always, we have £5 under-25s tickets available in association with Classic FM, but only applies to our concert at the Barbican.

Before our concert at the Barbican, we're excited to again be hosting our NYO Teen Fest - a unique teenage meet-and-greet event hosted by our NYO Young Promoters from Lister Community School. This is a chance to discover the stories behind the music , and meet NYO Musicians and Young Promoters. With a £5 under 25 ticket, you gain free entry to this event from 6.30-7.15pm.
