The
Orchestra has an inspiring effect on virtually all who come into
contact with it - whether as players, conductors or audiences. The
NYO's annual visit to the BBC Proms in 2004 was no exception. This
was Edward Seckerson in The Independent: "You may ask yourself,
based on these results, why the opportunities are not more widespread,
why music teaching in schools is still the exception not the rule.
But at least it's an annual reminder of just what is possible given
the will and the way. It was not just exciting, it was moving - because
it symbolised youthful endeavour, the will to succeed, and optimism
for the future. Here's hoping." And this was Geoff Brown, writing
in The Times: "Saturday night's Prom still gave us one joy in
full: the thrill of a packed Albert Hall enjoying and cheering on
an orchestra that still remains one of the best advertisements for
Britain and the joys of classical music."
Despite this remarkable reputation the NYO receives only a small percentage
of income from public funding. This year, after box office income, student
fees and a government grant from the NFYM, we will need to raise over £850,000.
We rely almost entirely on the support of charitable trusts, companies and
individuals to fund our work. Please consider how you can help the NYO. Your
contribution, whatever its size, will have an impact on the future of our unique
orchestra.
